Peninsula Veterinary Services to open in Millsboro May 1
April 20, 2017
A new full-service veterinary practice is set to open in Millsboro Monday, May 1. The practice will see appointments, walk-ins and emergencies. It will be the first in Delaware to offer hospice and palliative treatment for pets at the end of their lives. Dr. April Reid, Peninsula Veterinary Services owner, moved to the area two years ago from New York.
Animal hospice and palliative care provide comfort to companion animals with life-limiting or incurable diseases, and their families. Services may include hospice treatment, pain/anxiety management, holistic healing and in-home euthanasia. Many pet parents choose hospice care in order to participate in decision making about their pet’s needs, to have the time to say goodbye to their companions and to plan for their death.
“People all over the world are interested in how they can provide meaningful end-of-life care to their pets,” Reid said. “We are happy to be at the forefront of this innovative, yet much-needed practice.” For more information about animal hospice and palliative care, go to www.iaahpc.org/for-pet-parents.html.
The hospital will be open seven days a week with extended hours in the summer. It will be the only veterinary hospital open seven days, except for emergency hospitals. This will be convenient for local people to not have to fight traffic getting to Coastal Highway.
