Fear

Visits to the veterinarian can be stressful for dogs and cats. Unfamiliar animals, different species, a plethora of sights, sounds and smells... it is very common for pets to exhibit stress responses throughout their visit. Beyond the obvious problem of causing emotional damage to pets, this causes pet owners to be less likely to make routine preventive appointments, and it actually interferes with a pet's physiological systems that are commonly used to assess a pet's overall health. This presents difficulties in diagnostics, which is troubling.
Fear Free is a fast growing movement within the veterinary community to address this very old and significant problem. Certification requires rigorous training and testing on everything ranging from what a pet sees in the hospital, to how they are handled by the team, to the use of pheromones in their exam rooms, and everything in between. We do it because your pet's health and happiness is the reason we come into work. We do it because we care.
